Radiating Hope is pleased to announce a meaningful collaboration with the Radiation Planning Assistant (RPA) team at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. This incredible AI-powered tool, brought to life by MD Anderson, is set to bring much-needed radiotherapy to people in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), offering hope and healing where it’s needed most.
Closing the Gap in Global Cancer Care
One of the biggest challenges in the fight against cancer is the shortage of trained radiotherapy specialists, especially in LMICs. In many of these countries, access to advanced cancer treatments is extremely limited, leaving countless patients without the care they need. Radiating Hope and MD Anderson are committed to changing this by bringing life-saving technology to those who need it most.
What is the Radiation Planning Assistant (RPA)?
The Radiation Planning Assistant is an easy-to-use, web-based tool that helps with the planning and delivery of radiotherapy. It was designed with input from clinics in LMICs to make sure it meets their specific needs. Here’s what makes the RPA special:
- Automated Support: The RPA uses advanced technology to assist with the planning and precision of radiotherapy, making it easier for medical staff who are already stretched thin.
- Free Access: By offering this service at no cost to clinics in LMICs, the RPA ensures that more people can receive the high-quality cancer treatment they deserve.
- FDA Approved: In May 2023, the RPA received FDA clearance, and it’s set to start making a difference in 2024.
Empowering Local Clinics and Saving Lives
Through this collaboration, Radiating Hope and the RPA team are dedicated to giving local clinics the tools they need to offer life-saving cancer treatments. By integrating the RPA into their work, even clinics with limited resources can provide the high-quality care their patients deserve. This partnership is about more than just technology — it’s about giving people a fighting chance.
